HL Deb 18 March 1987 vol 485 cc1507-8WA
Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether greater freedom of movement has been allowed to appropriate prisoners at Holloway prison as recommended by the Holloway Special Project Committee.

The Minister of State, Home Office (The Earl of Caithness)

Yes. The education and work rooms and the gymnasium are now open on a regular basis, and prisoners have greater access to them. The number of women unlocked for work within the prison has also increased.

Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

At what time prisoners in Holloway prison are usually locked up for the night.

The Earl of Caithness

This varies, depending on staff availability in the unit in which the prisoner is located. In a recent week (lst–7th March) the time varied between 16.30 and 20.25 hours.
