§ Mr. George Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he intends any changes in the role of communications officer in British missions overseas; if he intends to reorganise the communications administration department of his Department; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. EggarChange in Diplomatic Service telecommunications to meet modern requirements is a continuing process. For the foreseeable future a mixture of locally engaged, general service and specialist communications staff will be employed on this work in British missions overseas. In common with other departments of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office the communications administration department is subject to regular inspections and organisational changes as necessary.
