§ 40. Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make additional resources available to Bradford to meet the district's education service needs.
§ Mr. DunnThe main source of Government support for revenue expenditure on local authority education is rate support grant, which is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment. The only powers available to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science to pay grants to local authorities are powers under the Education Support Grants Regulations 1984 and the Education Training Grants Regulations 1987. Authorities have been informed of the grants they can expect to receive in 1987–88 under these regulations. My right hon. Friend has no plans to pay additional grant to Bradford. He is considering the authority's representations about their allocation of capital expenditure for 1987–88.
