HL Deb 17 March 1987 vol 485 c1416WA
Lord Chelwood

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they now expect the United Nations to take to prepare for a United Nations Peace Conference to seek to solve the Arab/Israeli conflict and what steps the EC are now considering to bring the parties to the dispute closer together and so encourage them to overcome the present obstacles to a conference.

Baroness Hooper

The UN Secretary-General is mandated by General Assembly Resolution 41/43D to consult the Permanent Members of the Security Coucil and report by 15th May on the prospects for an international conference on the Middle East. The twelve, both collectively and individually, will remain in close contact with the parties to explore possible ways forward.
