§ Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Attorney-General if he will ask the Director of Public Prosecutions to prosecute Miss Lorrien Finley of Reproductive Freedom International under the Surrogacy Arrangements Act 1985; and if he will make a statement.
The Attorney-GeneralThe police have been carrying out extensive inquiries into the activities of Miss Finley since May 1986. The Director of Public Prosecutions has considered the results of those inquiries and is satisfied that to date there is insufficient evidence to justify the institution of proceedings for any offence contrary to the provisions of the Surrogacy Arrangements Act 1985. The police inquiries are continuing, however, and any further evidence that is brought to the attention of the police will be forwarded to the director for his consideration.
