HC Deb 16 March 1987 vol 112 cc416-7W
Dr. Marek

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects to receive the results of the mass screening programme undertaken at Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.

Mrs. Currie

[pursuant to her reply, 18 February 1987, c. 723]: Preliminary results announced in December indicated that the proportion of carriers of meningitis found in the population of Stonehouse was 11 per cent. —similar to findings in the population at large. One per cent. were found to carry the B.15 strain of meningococcal meningitis, and were treated with antibiotics.

I am pleased to say that the researchers have now almost completed their analysis of the samples taken and hope to send the Department results within the next two months.
