HC Deb 16 March 1987 vol 112 c405W
Mr. Thurnham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement about the future of the London and Metropolitan Government Staff Commission.

Mr. Chope

The commission has submitted a report on its work to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State covering the period from August 1984 to October 1986. This report is being published today and a copy has been placed in the Library of the House.

Almost a year after the abolition of the Greater London council and the metropolitan county councils, the major part of the commission's work has been achieved. Although there is still a role for the commission in relation to the staff of the residuary bodies, its membership has been much reduced to reflect its contracting work load.
