Member for Norfolk, North on 21 May 1984, Official Report, column 349, what was (a) the gross cost and (b) the net cost to the Exchequer of all agricultural support for each year since 1960 to 1985 including that forecast for 1986–87; and if he will also show the net cost as a percentage of gross domestic product in each case.
§ Mr. Gummer[pursuant to his reply, 13 March 1987, c. 339]: The gross and net cost to the Exchequer of all agricultural support for each year since 1960–61 is given in the following table.
The net cost includes reimbursements from the Community under the CAP. It does not take account of the United Kingdom's contributions to the Community budget.
The table also includes the net expenditure in agricultural support in the United Kingdom expressed as a percentage of gross domestic product for each year since 1960–61, together with projections for 1987–88 and 1988–89.
