HL Deb 16 March 1987 vol 485 cc1306-7WA
Viscount Hanworth

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, regardless of the effect of improving the insulation of existing houses on the need for new power stations (Written Answer, 3rd March, col. 508), they consider that such action represents a sound economic investment with a very short amortisation period.

Lord Skelmersdale

Regardless of the effect of improving the insulation of existing houses on the need for new power stations, generally, such action can represent a sound economic investment. An indication of those measures with a very short amortisation period is given in the Building Research Establishment report,An economic assessment of some energy conservation measures in housing and other buildings (1984). A copy of the report is being placed in the Library of the House.
