HC Deb 13 March 1987 vol 112 cc345-6W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Paymaster General what plans the Manpower Services Commission has for the two adult preparation training schemes in Leicester; how many adults are currently in training; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

[pursuant to his reply, 12 March 1987, c. 256]: At present there are three adult preparation training schemes in Leicester. The numbers of adults currently in training at each of these schemes are as follows:

Trainees
Charles Keene College 120
Leicester Adult Education Centre 40
Leicester Industrial Language Training Unit 23

All three schemes will continue in 1987–88. In the light of the expansion of the new job training scheme, we plan to reduce the number of trainees taking up places on the Charles Keene college course from 147 to 61, in order to reduce duplication of training. I am pleased to report that there are already 159 people in Leicester participating in new JTS, and I expect this number to increase substantially. I also expect the Charles Keene college to be fully involved in delivering the new scheme.
