§ Mr. McQuarrieasked the Secretary of State for Transport when he proposes to implement the clauses in the Safety at Sea Act 1986; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. SpicerSections 10, 11, 14 and 15 of the Act were brought into force in October 1986. Sections 1, 2, 3 and 7 are still undergoing detailed consultation with the fishing industry and manufacturers to ensure that the regulations will be technically and practically sound in operation. I am not, therefore, able at present to give a firm date when all the new requirements will be introduced. I hope to be in a position to do so after the meeting of the fishing industry safety group next month.
