HC Deb 13 March 1987 vol 112 c310W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will publish details of each accident which has occurred on the O'Neill road, Newtownabbey, County Antrim, in each of the last five years for which records are available.

Mr. Needham

The information is not available in the form requested and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. However during the period 1 January 1986 — 31 December 1986, 13 injuries-fatal accidents were reported to the police as having occurred at O'Neill road, Newtownabbey. From 1 January 1987 to date, two accidents have been reported, one of which proved fatal.

Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the most recent fatal accident on the O'Neill road, Newtownabbey, and when it occurred; and if he will take steps to ensure that there is a safe crossing for pedestrians provided between the O'Neill road roundabout and Cloughton corner, Newtownabbey.

Mr. Needham

The most recent fatal accident on the O'Neill road, Newtownabbey, occurred on 27 February 1987. I have arranged for the Department of the Environment's road service to assess whether a pedestrian crossing can be justified. I shall let my hon. Friend know the outcome as soon as possible.
