§ Mr. Iain Millsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received seeking allocation of resources forfeited by drug offenders towards assistance to rehabilitation schemes for drug addicts.
§ Mr. MellorWe have received two letters on this subject recently. The Drug Trafficking Offences Act 1986 empowers the Crown court to order the confiscation of the proceeds of drug trafficking and, in accordance with established Government accounting arrangements, provides for the money thus realised to be paid into the Consolidated Fund, which is used to finance Government expenditure generally. The Government are providing substantial funding for measures to tackle all aspects of the drugs problem, including the development of services for drug misusers.
