§ Baroness Carnegy of Lourasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will make a statement on the response to the advertisements about the Foreign Compensation (USSR) (Registration and Determination of Claims) Order 1986.
§ Baroness YoungAs envisaged in my answer of 13th January 1987 to the noble Earl, Lord Fortescue, these advertisements were carried in the national press at the end of January and early in February. Up to the end of February some 10,000 requests for application forms were received and dealt with in response to the advertisements. Approximately 70 per cent. of these requests were related to claims by holders of Russian bonds. However, the number of completed application forms which had been returned to the Foreign Compensation Commission by the end of February was low—slightly over 600. It is therefore important that potential claimants should bear in mind the strict closing dates for the receipt of completed forms. The closing date for claims in respect of bonds is 3Ist March 1987, while the closing date for applications in respect of other claims is 30th June 1987.
