HL Deb 11 March 1987 vol 485 c1130WA
Lord Grimond

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the terms on which the Ministry of Transport is buying from the Crown Commissioners that portion of the foreshore and sea-bed required for the Channel Tunnel and what are the terms of the lease to be granted to the undertakers of the tunnel project.

Lord Brabazon of Tara

Clause 7(3) of the Channel Tunnel Bill provides that the amount paid for the land to be acquired by the Secretary of State from the Crown Estate Commissioners shall be such an amount as the commissioners would have obtained for it on a sale by agreement under Section 3(1) of the Crown Estate Act 1961. In accordance with Annex II to the Concession Agreement, the amount paid by the Secretary of State will be reimbursed in full by the concessionaires, who will be granted leases in respect of the land.
