§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received from the Greater Manchester fire and civil defence authority concerning steps to implement the recommendations of the coroner's inquest into the Boeing 737 fire at Manchester airport on 22 August 1985; what reply he is sending; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerGreater Manchester fire and civil defence authority wrote to me on 26 February 1987 asking what action was considered necessary to ensure that positive steps are being taken to implement the recommendations of the coroner's inquest into the Boeing 737 fire at Manchester airport. Any action to improve aviation safety that arises from this tragic accident is the statutory responsibility of the Civil Aviation Authority. I have therefore asked the chairman of the authority to respond to the Manchester fire and civil defence authority's inquiry.
