§ Mr. LuceStatistics collected by the Department of the Environment show local authority current expenditure of £44 million and capital expenditure of £5 million in 1985–86 on museums, galleries and libraries in the west midlands region.
It is impossible to identify precise figures for performing arts but estimates for leisure and recreation are published annually by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and are available in the Library.
