§ Mr. O'Brienasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) what recent representations he has received on the Government's proposal to repeal the Trade Descriptions Act 1972; and if he will make a statement:
(2) if his Department has carried out a study into the effects that the repeal of the Trade Descriptions Act 1972 will have on British industry; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HowardI have received in response to my Department's consultation letter of 4 December 1986 a wide range of representations from industry, commerce and trade, consumer protection bodies, enforcement authorities and other interested parties about the scope for successor arrangements to the 1972 Act. A number of industries have made their views known on the perceived effect of the repeal. I am currently considering the various suggestions for successor arrangements and will inform the House in due course how the Government intend to proceed in the light of them.
