21. Mr. Stern

asked the Secretary of State for Energy when he next expects to meet the chairman of the Central Electricity Generating Board to discuss national policy on surplus energy produced by commerce and industry.

Mr. Peter Walker

I meet the chairman of the Central! Electricity Generating Board regularly. The Government's aim is that energy should be produced and used as efficiently and economically as possible. As regards private generation by commerce and industry, the Energy Act 1983 has created a guaranteed market for privately produced electricity.
