§ Mr. LuceThe most recent attendance figures are those given to the hon. Member for Warley, East (Mr. Faulds) in my written answer of 19 January. As I said in that answer, many factors can affect attendances at the national museums and galleries. The experience of independent museums, where charges for entrance are customary, is that attendance depends much more on the attractiveness of the service provided than on whether it is free.
