§ Mr. Ernie Rossasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what information he has that supports the creation of new job clubs in the Dundee travel-to-work area.
§ Mr. LangThe principal factor governing the decision to open a new job club in any particular area is the incidence of long-term unemployment. Other considerations are the level of demand for extension of the service, the availability of suitable premises either within a jobcentre or elewhere, and the degree of interest shown by external agents in setting up job clubs. These factors, together with the great success of the first three job clubs in Dundee, provided ample justification for the two further job clubs for Dundee opened on 2 March; and I do not rule out the possibility of further job clubs for the Dundee area if there is a sufficient demand.
§ Mr. Ernie Rossasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will indicate the activity rate of the individual job clubs within the Dundee travel-to-work area.
§ Mr. LangThe activity rates of each of the three job clubs operating within the Dundee travel-to-work area on 6 February 1987 (the latest date for which information is available) are shown in the table below.
