§ Mr. Gordon Brownasked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) how many miners in (a) Scotland and (b) Britain as a whole who were dismissed for activities during the national coal strike have been, (i) reinstated or re-engaged or (ii) remain dismissed; and how many of those dismissed in (a) Scotland and (b) the rest of the country still have their cases under review;
(2) how many cases of miners dismissed by the National Coal Board during the miners' strike were subject to industrial tribunal cases in (a) Scotland and (b) the rest of the country;
(3) how many employees of the National Coal Board in (a) Scotland and (b) Great Britain as a whole have been paid compensation as a result of industrial tribunal cases arising from their dismissal during the national coal strike;
(4) how much money has been paid out to former National Coal Board or British Coal employees as a result of industrial tribunal cases arising from dismissal during the miners' national strike; and if he will provide a separate figure for Scotland.
§ Mr. David HuntQuestions on the dismissal, reemployment or compensation of miners are matters for the management of the British Coal Corporation.
