HC Deb 04 March 1987 vol 111 cc601-2W
Sir Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has reached a decision concerning the electrification of the railway line between Cambridge and Royston following the representations made to the Minister of State by the hon. Member for Cambridgeshire, South-West on 17 February; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mitchell

I have today given approval to British Rail for the electrification of the line from Royston to Shepreth Junction at a cost of £2.5 million. This will allow passengers to travel directly from Kings Cross to Cambridge, which will be a significant improvement for commuters on this line. It brings the total BR investment that we have approved since October 1983 to £940 million.
