HC Deb 04 March 1987 vol 111 cc608-9W
Mr. Clelland

asked the Minister for the Arts what is his latest estimate of local authority spending on the arts.

Mr. Luce

The 1986–87 estimated outturns of local authority expenditure on museums, galleries and libraries, within my programme, are £434 million for current expenditure and £49 million for capital expenditure.

Budget estimates of individual authorities for current expenditure on wider arts activities are published annually by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy in "Leisure and Recreation Statistics Estimates", copies of which are in the Library.
