HC Deb 04 March 1987 vol 111 cc632-3W
35. Mr. Livsey

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what guidelines his Department will be laying down for housebuilding in or near villages as a result of the proposed changes in agricultural land use.

Mr. Waldegrave

Planning policy on the character of new housing in the circumstances to which the hon. Member refers is set out in circular 15/84. Inter alia, it says,…sites for new housing should be well related in scale and location to existing development…This applies to development within or adjoining larger towns and cities, and also to sites in smaller towns and villages where new housing, sympathetic in scale and character, can be permitted. Such development can help to sustain smaller communities in rural areas".

57. Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received following his announcement of his intention to produce a consultation paper on alternative land use.

Mr. Waldegrave

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the answer that I gave earlier today to my hon. Friends the Members for Sherwood (Mr. Stewart), for Christchurch (Mr. Adley) and for Rugby and Kenilworth (Mr. Pawsey).

64. Mr. Sean Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what comments he has so far received on the draft circular "Development Involving Agricultural Land."

Mr. Waldegrave

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the answer that I gave earlier today to my hon. Friends the Members for Sherwood (Mr. Stewart), for Christchurch (Mr. Adley) and for Rugby and Kenilworth (Mr. Pawsey).
