HL Deb 03 March 1987 vol 485 c618WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have exchanged with the Soviet authorities in a timely manner appropriate information concerning the recent incident in which a British submarine lost part of a towed array, as provided for in their agreement of 1986 with the Government of the Soviet Union concerning the prevention of incidents at sea beyond the territorial sea.

Lord Trefgarne

We follow the practice of all previous governments in not commenting on submarine operations. In any case, the details of any discussions between the British and Soviet Governments about the operation of the agreement concerning the prevention of incidents at sea would be confidential.
