§ 17. Mr. Barry Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Wales how many people were unemployed in May 1979 and to the latest date possible in 1987; and by how much in percentage terms and in figures the unemployed rate has increased for Wales.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsIn January 1987, the seasonally adjusted figure for unemployment in Wales was 165,300. The corresponding figure for May 1979 was 73,100. Between the two dates, the unemployment rate rose from 5.9 per cent., to 13.4 per cent. equivalent to 127 per cent.
