HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 c509W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Attorney-General what representations he has received relating to the disadvantages of the practice of publication of wills; and if he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

The Lord Chancellor receives representations from time to time that embarrassment is caused to testators' families by the publication of wills in newspapers. However, wills are available for public inspection both to prevent fraud and abuse and to enable benficiaries and creditors to discover whether it is worth making any claim against the estate concerned.
