§ Mr. Heddleasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will publish in the Official Report the text of any correspondence he has had with Staffordshire county 597W council, the Staffordshire police or any other public body since 1979 on matters of public safety in general and on military exercises involving radioactive dust in particular.
§ Mr. Ian StewartThe Ministry of Defence takes a responsible attitude towards all aspects of safety, including nuclear safety. Its correspondence with public bodies on public safety in general will, therefore, be extensive. Some of it, including most of that relating to nuclear accident response exercises, is classified. For these reasons, I am not in a position to publish it.
