HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 cc696-7W
Mr. Devlin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the cost of implementing the claim of speech therapists for pay parity with clinical psychologists; and if he will make a statement on his consideration of the claim.

Mr. Newton

It is not possible to make meaningful comparisons between the pay of speech therapists and clinical psychologists because of differences in entry requirements, training, grading, job content and conditions of service. Pay negotiation is a matter for the Whitley council. I understand that negotiations are in progress on the 1987 pay claim.
