HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 c504W
Mr. Hanley

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he proposes to refer the parliamentary pension scheme to the Top Salaries Review Body.

Mr. Wakeham

I have today written to the chairman of the TSRB asking the TSRB to review the parliamentary pension scheme. In my letter I drew his attention to the anomalies in the scheme which had been raised during the passage of the Parliamentary and Other Pensions Act 1987. I referred also to specific issues about which Members have expressed concern during our discussion of the proposals in that Act, and to a particular point which had been raised earlier in the House of Lords. In addition, I have asked the TSRB to consider the pension arrangements for the Lord Chancellor, the Speaker and the Prime Minister, and to look at the possibility of introducing severance payments for Ministers and officeholders other than those in the House of Lords who can already receive them.

A copy of the letter has been placed in the Library of the House.
