HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 c626W
Mr. Curry

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is yet in a position to respond to the report from the Farm Animal Welfare Council on the welfare of farmed deer.

Mr. Donald Thompson

We have carefully considered this report, following the many comments which have been received. In the main, we agree with the recommendations from the council. In particular we accept the proposal that the slaughter of deer be permitted in abattoirs provided there are suitable safeguards. Full details are being sent out to all interested organisations and a copy of our responses has been placed in the Library of the House.
