HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 cc714-5W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what, in each of the years since the Housing Defects Act has been in force, has been the allocation of cash to each local authority for specified system-built homes, by name for (a) repurchase and (b) repair; whether he will estimate how much of the money allocated has been spent in each year; and what have been the national allocations under the Act each year.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Government do not allocate cash for specific purposes like this. It is for local authorities to decide how to use the resources they have available to meet their expenditure needs, including their obligations under the Housing Defects Act.

Total expenditure by local authorities on repurchase and repair grants in each year since the legislation came into force has been as follows:

£ million
Repurchase Repair grants
1984–85 4
1985–86 60 3
1986–871 62 8
1 Provisional.

Individual authorities record their expenditure on these matters in their HIP 2 forms, copies of which are available in the Library.
