HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 cc605-6W
Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will make the fitting of front-wing mirrors on the passenger side of motor vehicles compulsory.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Nearside mirrors must be fitted in vehicles with no internal rear view mirror, such as lorries. Most cars are fitted with nearside mirrors. Under directive 85/205/EEC, this cannot be made compulsory.
