HC Deb 24 July 1987 vol 120 cc611-2W
Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will institute an inquiry into the incidence of aircraft near misses in the air space in the vicinity of Carlisle airport; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

No. The Civil Aviation Authority, through the National Air Traffic Services, has statutory responsibility for all matters concerning air traffic control. The reported air miss near Carlisle on 15 July 1987 is under investigation by the CAA's joint air miss working group which investigates all air miss reports. I understand that the incidence of air misses near Carlisle have been no different from that over other parts of the country where traffic volumes are similar.
