Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the availability of YTS schemes in rural areas.

Mr. Cope

The number of YTS places available is generally ahead of demand in all parts of the country, including rural areas. For trainees in particularly remote areas assistance is available with travel and lodging costs.

Mr. Battle

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many YTS places have been lost due to bankruptcies in businesses employing fewer than 50 people in Leeds, West constituency in each of the past five years; and how many of these YTS places have been replaced.

Mr. Cope

I regret that the information requested is not readily available, and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
