HC Deb 23 July 1987 vol 120 c377W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will estimate (a) the average cost of a current water flow meter and (b) the cost by each water authority area of the installation cost of water meters to each user's premises, by category.

Mr. Moynihan

The size of a meter, and therefore its cost, will depend on the volume of flow it is designed to measure. For a domestic supply, a meter typically costs between £12 and £15. The prime determinant of the installation cost is the nature of the plumbing arrangement of the property being metered rather than the category of property or the area in which it is situated.
