Mr. John

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) if he will list the benefits he anticipates will accrue to Wales as a result of the appointment of hon. Members as his special advisers;

(2) to what departmental papers and with what degree of classification those hon. Members recently appointed as his special advisers will have access;

(3) what is his estimate of the additional cost to public funds of the servicing by his Department of those hon. Members recently appointed as his special advisers;

(4) what is his estimate of the additional civil servants' time per annum which will he involved in servicing those hon. Members recently appointed as his special advisers.

Mr. Peter Walker

I look forward to considerable benefit arising from my having access to the experience, knowledge and interest of my hon. Friends in their particular fields of interest.

They will have access to papers under the normal rules governing all hon. Members' access to Government documents and I anticipate no extra staff time or public funds being required
