HC Deb 23 July 1987 vol 120 c335W
Mr. Caborn

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will take steps to extend the voluntary ban on the promotion of tourism to South Africa to include Namibia.

Mr. Lee

We have no plans to do so. The issues surrounding Namibia and South Africa are quite separate.

Mr. Caborn

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will outline the actions taken by Her Majesty's Government to implement the voluntary ban on tourism to South Africa as agreed by the Prime Minister at the Commonwealth review meeting in August 1986; and whether any mechanisms have been established to monitor this voluntary ban.

Mr. Lee

The action we have taken to implement the Government's voluntary ban on promotion of tourism to South Africa was set out by my hon. Friend, the previous Minister with responsibility for tourism, in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Ravensbourne (Mr. Hunt) on 30 October 1986 at column213.

The onus for deciding whether to comply with the measure or not must be with the organisation concerned.
