HL Deb 23 July 1987 vol 488 cc1571-2WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is the case that the NATO alliance is the possessor of the nuclear warheads currently available for fitting to the Pershing IA missiles in the possession of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, and if so since when has this been the case, and if not what was the meaning of the Minister of State's words reported in the House of Commons Hansard, 1st July, oral answers, col. 482 to the effect that "the West Germans have this rocketry and the alliance fits the warheads".

Lord Glenarthur

The US supplies the warheads with which the Pershing IA missiles of the Federal Republic of Germany are equipped. These warheads form part of the overall alliance posture of nuclear deterrence. It was to that position that my honourable friend referred.
