asked the Prime Minister if she will take steps to improve the co-ordination between the Inland Revenue and the Department of Health and Social Security in regard to the regulation and supervision of private sector pension schemes; and if she will clarify the status, powers and responsibilities of the Occupational Pensions Board.

I have noted my hon. Friend's proposal, but I have no reason to believe that the present relationship between the two Departments in this respect

is unsatisfactory. The Occupational Pensions Board, an independent statutory body constituted under the Social Security Act 1973, has certain limited responsibilities for occupational pensions under that Act, the Social Security Pensions Act 1975 and the Social Security Act 1986.
