asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make it his policy not to privatise National Health Service laboratory services; and if he will make a statement.

We have no plans to privatise National Health Service laboratory services. Where local circumstances indicate there may be advantages in obtaining particular services externally, decisions on this are a matter for the health authority concerned.
