HC Deb 23 July 1987 vol 120 c299W
Mr. Caborn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the statement made by Her Majesty's ambassador to South Africa on a visit to Windhoek, Namibia, on 2 June, that the South African administration in Namibia is a meaningful development on the road to independence provided that it becomes a means of obtaining internationally recognised independence for the region, represents Government policy.

Mrs. Chalker

Her Majesty's ambassador to South Africa was misquoted. There has been no change in our policy on Namibia or towards the so-called "transitional Government of national unity".
