asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will outline his plans for the job training scheme.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Wolverhampton, North-East (Mrs. Hicks) on Thursday 16 July 1987, at column592.

Mr. Leighton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people are on the job training scheme.

Mr. Cope

At 10 July 1987 14,371 people were receiving training on the new job training scheme.

Mr. Rees

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people have taken up places on the job training scheme since it began; how many are currently in training; and how many have left the scheme.

Mr. Cope

By 10 July 1987, 22,979 people had joined the new job training scheme; 14,371 are currently in training and 8,608 have left the scheme.

Mr. Rees

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the breakdown of people in training on the job training scheme by geographical location and the occupation for which they are being trained.

Mr. Cope

The table gives a breakdown of the number in training on the new job training scheme, by Manpower Services Commission vocational education and training group area as at 3 July, the latest date for which the area information is available.

Details of the occupational areas in which training is taking place are not yet available. This information will be collected by means of a sample survey to be conducted late in the autumn.
