HC Deb 23 July 1987 vol 120 c479W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects to respond to comments on the implementation of the Hospital Complaints Procedures Act 1985, requested in circular DA(86)14; and what is the reason for the delay since September 1986 in responding.

Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects the Hospital Complaints Procedure Act 1985 to be implemented.

Mrs. Currie

The analysis of the comments received in response to the consultation paper, on non-clinical complaints sent under cover of circular DA(86)14 has been substantially completed. We are encouraged to find that many authorities are already following the procedures advocated in that circular. The comments also show that many health authorities wish to see the voluntary guidelines dealing with clinical complaints procedures also incorporated within the directions to be issued.

Discussions are continuing with the joint consultants committee on the latter proposals. We hope to issue directions later this year.
