(3) if he will list all the purposes that the H I/FIX 6 radio transmitter is intended to serve;

(5) why the HI/FIX 6 radio system was built.

Mr. Ian Stewart

Hifix 6 is a radio navigation aid providing precise navigational data to RN ships operating in coastal waters. The system is fitted to all Hunt, River and Ton class mine-countermeasures vessels and to all ocean going and coastal survey vessels. Total expenditure on setting up the Hifix 6 systems, including development, production, spares and works costs, was about £10 million at 1983 prices. In addition, there is a small running maintenance contract. The location of Hifix 6 radio transmitters is classified.
