HL Deb 23 July 1987 vol 488 c1573WA
Lord Sandford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are in a position to announce the designation of further Environmentally Sensitive Areas in Scotland.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Sanderson of Bowden)

Three further Environmentally Sensitive Areas will now be designated in Scotland: the Machair Lands of the Uists and Benbecula; the Whitlaw/Eildon areas of the Borders Region and the Loch Ken/River Dee Valley in the Stewartry District of Dumfries and Galloway. Further consultations will be held with interested bodies in each of those areas before the designating orders are made.
