HC Deb 23 July 1987 vol 120 c368W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he proposes to allow new providers of electricity generation for either own-use or for sale to operate in the wake of the privatisation of the electricity supply industry.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Yes.

Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how he intends to meet any expediture arising from his proposal to privatise the electricity supply industry.

Mr. Parkinson

Parliamentary approval for expenditure on this new service will be sought in a Supplementary Supply Estimate for the Department of Energy. Pending that approval, urgent expenditure will be met by repayable advances from the contingencies fund.

Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what estimate he has made of the cost of providing extra facilities to transmit surplus electricity generated in Scotland to the grid serving England and Wales.

Mr. Michael Spicer

This is a matter for the two utilities concerned.
