Ms. Richardson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the number of (a) women and (b) men employed within each grade in his Department in each year since 1979.

The information requested is not held centrally for all grades employed in the diplomatic wing and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. Information readily available for Diplomatic Service grades only (excluding Home Civil Service grades in the diplomatic wing) since 1984 is set out in the tables.

The information for the aid wing is not readily available and will be provided in due course.
