asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will carry out an investigation into the use of cook-chill catering in the National Health Service.

No. Cook-chill is a well-established catering system. The available scientific evidence is that, providing existing guidelines on its operation are followed, it is microbiologically and nutritionally sound. The Department published guidelines for cook-chill in 1980, and further material was included in the 1986 manual "Health Service Catering—Hygiene".
